From Memphis To Merseyside Ep. 47 Parlophone Records
One of the most unusual record labels to emerge out of the U.K. or anywhere for that matter. As
part of the EMI company, Parlophone’s artists recorded in what is now known as Abbey Road
Studios. Starting with comedy, light jazz, under the direction of George Martin who ran the label
for ten years from 1955 until 1965, the label embraced Skiffle and Rock and Roll. They invented
the Mersey Beat and headed up the American Invasion of the 1960s, thanks to The Beatles.
