Marty Wilde, originally known as Reginald Leonard Smith, is an English singer and guitarist who rose to prominence as one of the leading British rock and roll artists in the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Despite being 84 years old, Marty continues to actively perform today. With a remarkable eight decades of chart success, he was honoured with an MBE in 2017 for his significant contributions to popular music.
Marty Wilde’s unwavering passion for music has been a driving force since he embarked on his musical journey at the age of 17.
Marty Wilde attributes his ability to stay relevant to his deep love for music and his distinctive outlook on life. He believes that his passion for music has kept him engaged and connected to the industry throughout.
His career as an English singer and guitarist began with several hit singles, including his cover of Ritchie Valens’ “Donna” and his rendition of “Teenager In Love,” which surpassed Dion’s original version. However, it was his self-penned hit, “Bad Boy,” that marked a breakthrough in his career and allowed him to explore songwriting.
Marty Wilde’s success in the music industry spans an impressive eight decades, and he continues to captivate audiences with his performances to this day. In addition to his personal achievements, he has also co-written songs for esteemed artists such as Lulu and Status Quo, as well as for his daughter, well known singer, Kim Wilde.
