On the next Rules Free Radio with Steve Caplan, we’ll sample a few of the many new and recent releases including Jenny O., RAYE, July Talk, Algiers, Phil Selway, Lowly, The Waeve, Ward White, Faten Kanaan, and one from the newly released 40th-anniversary edition of Marshall Crenshaw’s debut album. Unfortunately, we’ve lost another giant in the world of music. Saxophonist and composer Wayne Shorter was 89 when he passed away a few days ago. He composed songs that have become Jazz standards. He’s played with some of the greatest musicians of all time including his stint in a legendary Miles Davis group along with Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and drummer Tony Williams. He was a longtime member of one of the pioneering bands of Jazz fusion, Weather Report. And in addition to playing with other Jazz greats like Horace Silver and Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, he played with a wide range of Rock and Pop artists. So even if you aren’t a big Jazz fan or aren’t all that familiar with him, he’s played with artists and on albums that you know including Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones, The Rolling Stones, and a bunch of others. We’ll start with some of his work accompanying some of those artists and end with some of his legendary Jazz contributions. It all starts at 2 on Tuesday afternoon on Bombshellradio.com!
