Our guest today on A Breath of Fresh Air is Graeme Clark, founding bassist and songwriter of one of Britain’s most iconic pop bands, Wet Wet Wet. Born out of Glasgow in 1982, the band began as a group of school friends who used music as an escape from the challenges of the time. Their very first single, Wishing I Was Lucky, struck a chord with audiences in 1987 and launched them into the spotlight, followed by a string of unforgettable hits like Sweet Little Mystery and Goodnight Girl.

Graeme takes us behind the scenes of Wet Wet Wet’s incredible journey, from the band’s early days and their rise to fame, to the record-breaking success of Love Is All Around. Their cover of The Troggs’ classic became a cultural phenomenon after featuring in Four Weddings and a Funeral, spending 15 weeks at number one in the UK and earning the band global recognition.

In our conversation, Graeme reflects on the highs and lows of life in one of the UK’s biggest bands—the pressures of fame, the eventual break-up, and the joy of reuniting. He also talks about Wet Wet Wet’s exciting new era with frontman Kevin Simm, winner of The Voice UK, who joined in 2018 to help carry the band into the future. With their latest album The Journey, Graeme and the band prove that Wet Wet Wet’s music still resonates just as strongly today.
