John Lodge (1943–2025) was the melodic heart of The Moody Blues, the bass guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist who helped turn the band from an R&B outfit into one of the most imaginative forces in progressive rock. Born in Birmingham, England, Lodge joined the group in 1966 alongside Justin Hayward, and together they shaped the symphonic sound that defined a generation. His unforgettable songs — “Ride My See-Saw,” “Isn’t Life Strange,” and “I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)” — became staples of rock radio and concert halls worldwide.
Throughout five decades with The Moody Blues, Lodge anchored the band’s lush harmonies and philosophical lyrics with his melodic basslines and grounded spirit. Their landmark album Days of Future Passed (1967) and its orchestral fusion of rock and classical music changed the genre forever. When the band retired from touring in 2018, following their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, Lodge continued to carry the Moody Blues’ torch through his solo career.
Albums like B Yond, Days of Future Passed – My Sojourn, and Love Conquers All showcased his faith, optimism, and lifelong passion for music. A devoted family man and quietly spiritual artist, John Lodge’s warmth resonated through every note he played. His passing in 2025 marked the end of an era — but his music, message, and gentle heart continue to inspire listeners across the world.
