Allan Clarke, the original lead singer and co-founder of The Hollies, is one of the most iconic voices of the British Invasion and classic rock era. Born in Salford, England, Clarke rose to fame in the 1960s alongside childhood friend Graham Nash, forming The Hollies and delivering a string of timeless hits like He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My BrotherBus Stop, and the gritty classic Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress).

With his powerful vocals and emotional delivery, Clarke became the soul of The Hollies’ sound—equal parts melodic, raw, and unmistakable. His performances helped the band achieve massive international success, selling over 60 million records and securing their place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Clarke also enjoyed a solo career, releasing several albums that showcased his depth as a songwriter. Though he retired from music in the late ’90s, he made a stunning return in 2019 with Resurgence, proving that his voice—and his passion for music—were as strong as ever.

Today, Allan Clarke is celebrated not just as the voice behind some of rock’s most enduring songs, but as a true pioneer of harmony-rich British pop rock. His influence on generations of musicians and fans remains as powerful today as it was at the height of The Hollies’ success.
