Rick Wakeman is an iconic British keyboardist, composer, and producer, renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to progressive rock and classical-inspired music. Born in London, he demonstrated prodigious talent early on, studying at the Royal College of Music. He rose to prominence as a sought-after session musician, working with legends like David Bowie on “Life on Mars?” and Cat Stevens on “Morning Has Broken.”

In 1971, Wakeman joined the progressive rock band Yes, revolutionizing their sound on classic albums such as Fragileand Close to the Edge. His virtuosic keyboard skills and theatrical stage presence became hallmarks of the band’s success. Alongside his work with Yes, Wakeman launched a solo career marked by ambitious concept albums like The Six Wives of Henry VIII and Journey to the Centre of the Earth, blending rock, classical, and historical themes.

Wakeman’s career spans decades of innovation, including collaborations with Black Sabbath, Lou Reed, and Elton John, as well as composing film and TV scores. A charismatic media personality, he’s also known for his wit and storytelling. Despite health challenges, Wakeman remains an active performer and recording artist, influencing countless musicians and solidifying his legacy as a pioneer of progressive rock and keyboard artistry.
