“September Days”
As the The Delevantes, the New Jersey-born Mike Delevante and his brother Bob put their stamp on the ’90s by releasing two shimmering albums of perfect Americana; 1995’s Long About That Time and 1997’s Postcards From Along The Way. They landed a number one track, played Conan got rave reviews from around the world and had a number one album on the Gavin Americana charts. With the E-Street Band’s Gary Tallent and Benmont Tench of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in the fold, the Delevantes fell somewhere between the Louvin Brothers, The Jayhawks and early R.E.M. Firmly transplanted into Nashville, the Delevantes went dormant for about 25 years as both Bob and Mike pursued careers in graphic desing, but 2021’s A Thousand Turns proved time couldn’t touch the soulful perfection of their harmonies and it was a stunning and welcome return to form. Now, four years later comes Mike’s debut solo album September Days and it is a stone cold stunner. A thirteen song cycle about longing, desire and rebirth, September Days is filled with timeless jangle, aching precision and shimmering beauty. It’s just lovely work.
