Before Hotel California and worldwide fame, there was Bernie Leadon — the multi-instrumentalist who gave The Eagles their original country-rock soul. A founding member of the band, Bernie blended bluegrass, folk, and rock to create a sound that redefined American music.
Born in Minneapolis in 1947, Leadon mastered guitar, banjo, mandolin, and dobro, skills that took him from early country-rock pioneers like The Flying Burrito Brothers and Dillard & Clark to the very heart of The Eagles. His influence runs through timeless hits such as Take It Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling, and Desperado, where his harmonies and string work helped forge the band’s classic sound.
After leaving The Eagles in 1975, Bernie carved out an impressive career as a session musician, collaborator, and solo artist, working with greats like Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris, and Stephen Stills. Decades later, he rejoined The Eagles for their History of the Eagles tour — a triumphant return that reminded fans of his quiet brilliance.
Now, with his latest solo album, ‘Too Late to be Cool’ Bernie Leadon revisits the Americana and roots influences that first inspired him. His story is one of creativity, reinvention, and musical honesty — the mark of a true original who helped give The Eagles their wings.
