Rules Free Radio March 4 2025

In the first hour of the next Rules Free Radio with Steve Caplan we’ve got some new releases to catch up on and a few classics as well. New Panda Bear, Andy Bell, bdrmm, Deep Sea Diver, Hour and others, plus Little Feat, Love, The Kinks, Richard Barone, and more. In the second and third hours we’ll pay tribute to three artists we lost this past week or so. In the second hour, we’ll remember Joey Molland, who was the last surviving member of the band Badfinger. We’ll hear their music, some of his solo efforts and one or two where he is accompanying other artists. David Johansen was also a last surviving original band member of the influential Glam Punk band New York Dolls. He also did music as a solo artists under his own name and also using the alter ego Buster Poindexter. We’ll listen to music by all three. Finally, the last hour we’ll focus on the late vibraphonist Roy Ayers. He is often called the godfather of Neo Soul, a genre that melds Jazz Funk Soul and R&B. Before that, he was a solid straight ahead Bop and Post-Bop player accompanying others in his early years and producing his own albums. We’ll hear some of both sides of Roy Ayers.
