From Memphis to Merseyside Ep 8 ‘Requiem for John Lennon’
December 8, 1980 is forever etched in our collective memories as the day that John Lennon
died tragically in the most shocking way imaginable, at the hands of an assassin.
Lennon was finally back in the studio, having recently released ‘Double Fantasy’ and seemed
inspired again to resume his musical career after taking five years off to become a family man.
Here was a man who was approaching middle age, and was finally becoming comfortable in his
own skin. He was enjoying his life in New York City, and the world was an open book in front of
him. We thought the four members of The Beatles would be with us forever.
Today on ‘From Memphis to Merseyside’ we present a special episode with songs by Lennon
himself both as a solo artist and from his days with The Beatles. We also have songs written as
tributes to Lennon by a wide variety of artists. We hope you enjoy the show.
