From Memphis to Merseyside Ep 7 “New York, New York”
The Big Apple, The Empire City, The City That Never Sleeps…you can take your pick of nicknames, but one thing that is undeniable is that New York City exerts a pull on artists of every type, including musicians. From the first moment he landed in New York City with The Beatles in 1964, John Lennon heard this siren call and fell in love with the city, so much so that he made it his permanent home a short seven years later, in 1971. As we near the anniversary of John Lennon’s passing, we thought that today we’d pay tribute to the city that he loved so much. Each of the songs in this eclectic list was inspired by New York City, or has some kind of connection with The Big Apple. As Billy Joel so aptly put it, “I don’t have any reasons/I’ve left them all behind. I’m in a New York State of Mind’. We hope you’ll be in a New York state of mind as you enjoy listening to the show.
